the lake fell cold when the light
went out and the water stopped
the trees fell silent when their eyes
opened and their ears sharpened

from treetop to treetop
Ask them what they're worth
lines of colors would be drawn
but the colors can't be seen

by human eyes at least
they've seen too many, too much
they wake up wearing their dreams
tired and worn by dissociation

but these roam around by sound
without even feeling they're around
